Sudanese Military-Industrial Conglomerate Owns Major Textile Company

Sudanese military-industrial conglomerate Defense Industries System, which is sanctioned under a US nonproliferation authority, owns a minority stake in Sudan-based SUR International Investment Company Ltd. The Qatar Armed Forces Industry Committee, Sudan’s Ministry of Defense, and Turkish businessman Oktay Ercan also own the company, which aims to “produce all textile products of the military and police forces in Africa besides Middle East countries.” Sudan’s Defense Minister, Awad Ibn Auf, is sanctioned by the US under its Darfur authority.
