Examining Recent U.S. and U.K. Sanctions Against Russia
November 16, 2023
On November 16th, Kharon hosted a Quick Take on the latest series of Western sanctions and trade restrictions levied against Russia.
Since November 2, the U.S. and U.K. governments have imposed new measures against more than 200 Russian and foreign persons involved in Russia’s economy and its sanctions and export control evasion. The sweeping new measures include sanctions against defense-related entities and procurement agents that have acquired dual-use electronics in violation of Western sanctions and trade controls.
Hundreds of additional entities, while not listed, are majority-owned or controlled by the newly sanctioned actors. Kharon's research has also identified other intermediaries involved in the trade of Russian gold, oil, and other goods, as well as third-country suppliers of prohibited electronics to Russia. These additional entities span more than 14 jurisdictions outside Russia, including China, Switzerland, Türkiye, and more. During the session, our experts provide a review of the broader networks surrounding the recently sanctioned parties.
